Research Expert (m/f/d)

Location:  Oberwinterthur

Responsibilities:

  • Participation in a funded research project as PhD candidate relating to the research of spray and combustion for alternative fuels
  • Experimentally investigate in-cylinder processes and hydraulic systems of large low-speed engines, specially focusing on the injection behaviour, combustion/emission characteristics
  • Plan, design and manage experiments and measurement campaigns, leveraging expertise in spray combustion research
  • Develop and maintain test facilities for investigating in-cylinder and injection processes
  • Implement solutions for instrumentation, automation and control, as well as data acquisition solutions for new experimental setups
  • Further develop data analysis tools, image-processing routines, and associated workflows for the evaluation and management of measurement data
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, scientific publications, and presentations, and effectively communicate research findings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on international R&D activities, emerging technologies, and scientific developments within the field of research
  • Supervise of allocated project personnel (e.g. Engineers, Trainees, Students)

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum Master’s degree in (mechanical) engineering or equivalent
  • Preferably knowledge of internal combustion engines and related injection/in-cylinder processes
  • Experience with (laser-optical) experimental techniques and high-speed imaging for spray and combustion diagnostics is an asset
  • Strong interest in data analysis, image processing, and scientific programming (e.g., Python, Matlab and LabVIEW).
  • Flexible and open-minded way of thinking
  • Good communication skills
  • Be an effective team player, open and cooperative, in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Fluent in English, German is advantage
